Who performed the English Pokémon television theme song?

The story behind the answer

Jason Paige performed the English Pokémon television theme song.

The song, commonly known as “Pokémon Theme,” opens the English version of the original animated series. Its best-known refrain includes the slogan “Gotta catch ’em all!” and helped define the sound of Pokémon’s international launch in the late 1990s.

John Siegler and John Loeffler wrote the song, so they are sometimes incorrectly identified as its performers. Paige provided the lead vocal for the English recording. The Japanese opening themes were different songs performed by Japanese artists, including Rica Matsumoto, who voiced Ash in Japan.

The English theme became strongly associated with Pokémania, the surge of Pokémon popularity outside Japan between 1998 and 2000. It was reused and revisited in anniversary projects, making Paige’s recording one of the franchise’s most recognizable musical contributions.
