Who originally voiced Velma Dinkley in the 1969 series?
Answer
Nicole Jaffe
Answer
Nicole Jaffe
Nicole Jaffe originally voiced Velma Dinkley in the 1969 Scooby-Doo series.
Jaffe was the voice of Velma in “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!”, which premiered on September 13, 1969. Velma was the group’s analytical investigator: she relied on logic, scientific knowledge, and careful observation, while her missing glasses became one of the character’s recurring comic traits.
Jaffe continued voicing Velma in “The New Scooby-Doo Movies,” which extended the original era with guest appearances by characters and celebrities from other series. She left regular voice acting in the 1970s and later built a career as a talent agent under her married name, Nicole David.
The role changed hands several times over the franchise’s history. Pat Stevens voiced Velma in the mid-to-late 1970s, Marla Frumkin followed in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and Mindy Cohn became especially associated with the character from 2002 onward. Jaffe later returned for two 2003 direct-to-video films, but that does not change the answer for the original 1969 series.
