Who killed the Trojan archer Pandarus? Diomedes killed Pandarus in Homer’s Iliad. Pandarus was a renowned archer from Zeleia in the Troad and led Lycian forces allied with Troy.

In Book 4, Pandarus breaks the truce between the Greeks and Trojans by shooting Menelaus. He later attacks Diomedes, but the goddess Athena protects the Greek hero from the arrow’s full effect. Pandarus then abandons his bow and fights Diomedes at close range while Aeneas drives his chariot.

Diomedes defeats him in the ensuing clash, striking him with a deadly blow that knocks him from the chariot and ends his life. Diomedes then pursues Aeneas, who is rescued by his mother, Aphrodite. The episode helps establish Diomedes as one of the Iliad’s most formidable Greek warriors.

Pandarus is sometimes confused with the medieval and Shakespearean character who acts as a go-between for Troilus and Cressida. That later literary figure derives the name from the Iliad but is substantially different from Homer’s Trojan archer.
