Who is the protagonist of the Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap?

The story behind the answer

Todd Snap is the protagonist of the Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap.

Released in Japan on March 21, 1999, Pokémon Snap casts the player as a photographer rather than a Pokémon Trainer. Professor Oak sends Todd to Pokémon Island, where he photographs Pokémon living across beaches, caves, rivers, tunnels, and other environments.

The player travels automatically in a vehicle called the Zero-One and uses an in-game camera to capture photographs. Apples, Pester Balls, and the Poké Flute can influence Pokémon behavior and reveal better photographic opportunities. Professor Oak evaluates the pictures according to factors such as size, pose, and placement.

Todd Snap is sometimes confused with Ash Ketchum because Todd later appeared briefly in the Pokémon anime. The game itself is a separate photography-focused spin-off, not a conventional role-playing adventure. It featured 63 Pokémon from the original 151 and helped establish photography as a distinctive Pokémon game format.
