Who is the lyricist for the songs in Tangled?
Answer
Glenn Slater
Answer
Glenn Slater
Glenn Slater is the lyricist for Tangled’s principal original songs.
Slater supplied the lyrics while Alan Menken wrote the music. Their collaboration gives Tangled its Broadway-influenced Disney sound, from Rapunzel’s opening “When Will My Life Begin?” to the romantic duet “I See the Light” and the comic ensemble number “I’ve Got a Dream.”
There is one useful qualification: the closing-credits song “Something That I Want” was written and performed by Grace Potter, so Slater did not write every song associated with the film or its soundtrack. In ordinary quiz wording, however, “Glenn Slater” is the canonical answer because he is credited as Tangled’s lyricist for its main songs.
Slater was already known as a lyricist for stage and screen projects, and Tangled became one of his most prominent Disney collaborations. “I See the Light,” written with Menken, later received major awards attention, helping make the songwriting partnership especially recognizable.
