Who is the leader of BTS?

The leader of BTS is RM, whose birth name is Kim Nam-joon.

RM is the group's rapper, songwriter, and spokesperson, and he has served as BTS's leader since the group's formation. Before debuting, he was known in Seoul's underground hip-hop scene as Runch Randa. Big Hit Entertainment originally developed BTS around his rap background, making his leadership role part of the group's story from its earliest days.

He was formerly known as Rap Monster, a stage name later shortened to RM. The initials have been associated with “Real Me,” reflecting his more personal artistic identity. RM is also known for helping represent BTS in interviews and international public appearances, particularly because he speaks English fluently.

The other options are BTS members but not the group's leader: Jin is the oldest member, Suga and J-Hope are rappers, and J-Hope has held important dance and performance roles. Leadership does not mean RM is the only songwriter; all seven members have contributed creatively across BTS's catalog.
