Who is the creator of Grey's Anatomy?
Answer
Shonda Rhimes
Answer
Shonda Rhimes
Shonda Rhimes is the creator of Grey's Anatomy. She developed the medical drama for ABC, wrote its pilot, and served as its original showrunner and executive producer.
The series premiered on March 27, 2005, following surgical interns, residents, and attending physicians at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital in Seattle. The hospital was later renamed Seattle Grace Mercy West and then Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The title combines the surname of central character Meredith Grey with Gray's Anatomy, the classic anatomy textbook.
Rhimes remained closely associated with the show even after stepping down as showrunner in 2015. Grey's Anatomy became the flagship production of her company, Shondaland, and helped launch a wider television career that included Private Practice, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder.
A common mix-up is confusing creator with showrunner or executive producer. Several people held those later production roles, but Rhimes is the show's credited creator.
