Who is the Chinese goddess of lightning?

The Chinese goddess of lightning is Dianmu.

Also called Leizi or Tianmu, Dianmu is a weather deity in Chinese folk religion and mythology. She is traditionally depicted using flashing mirrors to illuminate the earth. Her light allows her husband, Leigong, the god of thunder, to see which people deserve punishment. The myth offers a story-based explanation for why lightning appears before the sound of thunder.

In one popular legend, Dianmu was a human woman who was killed by Leigong after he misunderstood her disposal of rice husks as waste. The Jade Emperor restored her to life and made her a goddess, assigning her to work with Leigong. This story is one reason Dianmu is often discussed alongside the thunder god rather than as an isolated deity.

A common mix-up is answering Leigong: his name is strongly linked with storms, but his specific role is thunder. Yushi is the Rain Master, and Fengbo is the spirit or personification of wind. Dianmu’s name has also been used for several Pacific typhoons.
