Who is the CEO of Snap?

The story behind the answer

Evan Spiegel is the CEO of Snap. He co-founded Snapchat with Bobby Murphy while they were students at Stanford University, and he has served as Snap’s chief executive since May 2012.

Snapchat launched in 2011 as a mobile messaging service built around disappearing photos and videos. Spiegel’s leadership continued as the company expanded into advertising, augmented-reality features, messaging, stories, and spectacles. The parent company changed its corporate name from Snapchat Inc. to Snap Inc. in 2016, while Snapchat remained the name of its flagship app.

A frequent mix-up is confusing the company, the app, and its founders. Snap Inc. is the publicly traded parent company; Snapchat is its best-known product; and Bobby Murphy is the company’s other co-founder and a senior executive. Evan Spiegel is the chief executive, not Evan Williams, who co-founded Twitter and Blogger.
