Who is the author of 'The Hobbit'?
Answer
J.R.R. Tolkien
Answer
J.R.R. Tolkien
The author of 'The Hobbit' is J. R. R. Tolkien.
J. R. R. Tolkien wrote 'The Hobbit, or There and Back Again', a children's fantasy novel first published in the United Kingdom on September 21, 1937. The story follows Bilbo Baggins, a comfort-loving hobbit who leaves his home after joining the wizard Gandalf and thirteen dwarves on a quest to reclaim their treasure from the dragon Smaug.
The novel introduced readers to Middle-earth, a setting Tolkien later developed much further in 'The Lord of the Rings'. Although 'The Hobbit' is often read as an adventure for children, it includes Tolkien's deep interests in mythology, invented languages, heroic legend, riddles, and the moral dangers of greed and possessiveness.
Tolkien also illustrated the first edition and created the book's maps and runic material. The novel was an immediate critical success and won a prize from the New York Herald Tribune for best juvenile fiction. It is sometimes confused with works by C. S. Lewis, J. K. Rowling, or George R. R. Martin, but those authors wrote different fantasy series. Tolkien's initials are correctly rendered as J. R. R., standing for John Ronald Reuel.
