Who is the author of The Chronicles of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

The author of The Chronicles of Narnia is C. S. Lewis. The British writer created the seven-book fantasy series, which was originally published between 1950 and 1956.

Lewis was born Clive Staples Lewis in Belfast in 1898 and became one of the twentieth century's best-known Christian writers and literary scholars. He was also a member of the Inklings, an Oxford literary group that included J. R. R. Tolkien, which likely explains why Tolkien is sometimes mistakenly named as Narnia's author.

The series combines portal fantasy with mythology, talking animals, medieval imagery, and Christian themes. Its stories take place primarily in the fictional world of Narnia, where children from England become involved in the kingdom's history and its conflict between good and evil.

Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, while Roald Dahl created books such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They are all major children's authors, but neither wrote Narnia. Lewis's initials are usually written with periods as “C. S. Lewis,” though the unpunctuated form “CS Lewis” is also common.
