Who is Scooby-Doo's best human friend?

The story behind the answer

Shaggy Rogers is Scooby-Doo’s best human friend.

Their friendship is the emotional center of the franchise. Shaggy is Scooby’s owner and constant companion, and the pair are usually portrayed as inseparable partners who share an enormous appetite, a fear of danger, and a talent for accidentally helping solve mysteries. Even when they try to escape a monster, their antics often expose the culprit’s plan.

Shaggy’s full first name is Norville, but he is almost always called Shaggy. He was one of the four teenage members of the original mystery-solving group alongside Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, and Velma Dinkley. The character’s laid-back speech, skinny appearance, goatee, and frequent use of “like” were inspired partly by Maynard G. Krebs from The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.

Scooby is technically Shaggy’s dog, but the relationship is presented as a close friendship rather than a simple pet-and-owner bond. That is why Daphne, Velma, and Fred are friends and teammates, yet Shaggy remains the answer to this specific question.
