Who is Pandora’s husband in the Greek myth recorded by Hesiod?

The story behind the answer

Epimetheus is Pandora’s husband in the Greek myth recorded by Hesiod.

Epimetheus is a Titan associated with hindsight; his name is commonly explained as “afterthought.” He is the brother of Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. Zeus sends Pandora to Epimetheus after Prometheus has stolen fire and Zeus decides to punish humanity.

Prometheus warns Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepts Pandora. In Hesiod’s account, Pandora later opens the vessel, releasing troubles into the human world. The marriage therefore connects the story of fire, divine punishment, and the arrival of suffering.

Epimetheus is not the same figure as Prometheus, although the two are brothers in Greek mythology. Their contrasting names and judgment are central to the story’s moral structure.
