Iapetus is Pandora’s father-in-law in the Greek myth of the container.
Iapetus was a Titan and the father of Prometheus and Epimetheus. Since Epimetheus is identified as Pandora’s husband in the myth, Iapetus becomes her father-in-law within the family genealogy. Iapetus is also traditionally named as the father of Atlas and Menoetius, giving him an important place among the older divine generation.
This relationship is not the central point of Pandora’s story, so it is easy to miss. The myth’s action focuses on Zeus, Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Pandora, while the Titan family tree supplies the background connections. Greek genealogies can also vary between authors and sources, but Iapetus’s parentage of Prometheus and Epimetheus is a standard tradition.
Iapetus is often associated with mortality or the limits of human life in later interpretation. That symbolic reading is separate from the straightforward genealogical answer: as Epimetheus’s father, he is Pandora’s father-in-law.
