Who is Pandora’s daughter in the Greek creation myth?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Pandora’s daughter is Pyrrha.

Pyrrha is described as the daughter of Epimetheus and Pandora. She marries Deucalion, the son of Prometheus, and the pair become the central survivors of the Greek flood myth. Zeus sends a flood to destroy humanity, but Deucalion and Pyrrha survive in a chest or ark and later repopulate the earth.

After the flood, an oracle tells them to throw the “bones of their mother” behind them. They understand this as the stones of Mother Earth. Deucalion’s stones become men, while Pyrrha’s stones become women. In this way, Pyrrha is connected both to Pandora’s family and to the mythic renewal of humankind.

Pyrrha should not be confused with Helen, who is associated with Zeus and Leda in another Greek myth. The name Pyrrha also appears in other ancient traditions, but the flood survivor is Pandora’s daughter.
