Who invented Coca-Cola in 1886 at Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta?

The story behind the answer

John Stith Pemberton invented Coca-Cola in 1886 at his pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia.

Pemberton was a pharmacist and former Confederate lieutenant colonel who developed the beverage while experimenting with coca-leaf and kola-nut ingredients. The drink was first sold as a fountain beverage mixed with carbonated water.

Pemberton’s accountant, Frank M. Robinson, named the drink and designed its flowing script logo. Pemberton sold portions of the business and died in 1888, before Coca-Cola became a major national brand. Asa Candler later acquired most of the company’s rights and built the business through aggressive marketing and distribution.
