Who holds the men’s official marathon world record with a time of 2:00:35?
Answer
Kelvin Kiptum
Answer
Kelvin Kiptum
Kelvin Kiptum holds the men’s official marathon world record with a time of 2:00:35.
Kiptum set the mark at the 2023 Chicago Marathon on 8 October 2023. He lowered the previous official record of 2:01:09, set by Eliud Kipchoge in Berlin in 2022, by 34 seconds.
Kiptum’s performance made him the first athlete to run an officially record-eligible marathon under 2 hours and 1 minute. His pace averaged roughly 2 minutes 51 seconds per kilometer, or about 4 minutes 37 seconds per mile.
The record is an official race record because it was achieved under recognized competition conditions. It should not be confused with Kipchoge’s 1:59:40.2 in the 2019 INEOS 1:59 Challenge, which was not eligible as an official world record because the event used special pacing and support conditions.
