Ikue Ōtani has voiced Pikachu in the Pokémon anime across its main language versions.
Unlike most Pokémon anime characters, Pikachu’s voice was kept consistent internationally. Ōtani’s performance is built largely around Pikachu saying its name, creating a recognizable vocal identity without conventional human dialogue.
Ōtani began voicing Pikachu when the anime character was introduced and has continued in the role across the main series. She has also voiced Pikachu in several games and in the Super Smash Bros. series. Some productions have used other actors for special lines or separate adaptations, but Ōtani remains the defining voice of the character.
This fact is distinct from Ash’s voice performers. Rica Matsumoto voices Ash in Japanese, while Veronica Taylor voiced Ash in the early English dub. Pikachu’s consistent voice helped the character remain recognizable across countries and languages.
