Rosie Rios has chaired the United States Semiquincentennial Commission since 2022.
Rios was designated chair of the commission in July 2022. She previously served as the 43rd Treasurer of the United States from 2009 to 2016, making her the first woman to hold that office since its creation in 1775.
The commission’s chair leads a body responsible for coordinating national planning for the 250th anniversary. Its work includes relationships with federal agencies, state and local organizers, educational institutions, historical organizations, and private partners.
Rios succeeded Daniel DiLella, who had chaired the commission during its early planning period. DiLella remained involved as a commissioner after the leadership change. The chairmanship is distinct from the role of chief executive officer for the America250 Foundation, the commission’s private nonprofit partner.
