Who founded the Nobel Prize system through the will that established the awards?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Nobel founded the Nobel Prize system through his will, which directed that most of his fortune be invested and used to reward people whose work benefited humanity. Nobel signed the final version of his will in Paris on 27 November 1895.

Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer, inventor, and industrialist. He is best known for inventing dynamite, a safer and more practical form of explosive based on nitroglycerin. His fortune came from patents and businesses connected to explosives and other inventions.

The first Nobel Prizes were awarded in 1901, five years after Nobel’s death. The original categories were Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was established in 1968 and is administered alongside the Nobel Prizes, but it was not one of Nobel’s original awards.
