Who founded Mister Donut?
Answer
Harry Winokur
Answer
Harry Winokur
Mister Donut was founded by Harry Winokur. The American doughnut chain began in 1956, after Winokur’s work with his brother-in-law, William Rosenberg, who founded Dunkin’ Donuts.
Winokur later partnered with his son-in-law, David Slater, and expanded Mister Donut through franchising. The business grew to hundreds of shops in the United States and Canada before International Multifoods acquired it in 1970.
A common mix-up is William Rosenberg: he was associated with Mister Donut’s early background but founded Dunkin’ Donuts, not Mister Donut. Mister Donut’s later history is especially associated with Japan, where Duskin acquired the franchise rights for Japan and Asia in 1983.
