The Miami Heat finished first in the Southeast Division for the 2017–18 NBA season.
Miami completed the regular season with a 44–38 record, narrowly topping the division ahead of the Washington Wizards. The Heat were led by head coach Erik Spoelstra, with Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside, Josh Richardson and James Johnson among their key contributors. Their balanced season earned them the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.
A common mix-up is confusing the Southeast Division winner with the Eastern Conference leader. Miami won its division but ranked sixth among Eastern Conference teams, while the Toronto Raptors finished first overall in the East. The Heat also shared the same overall record as some other NBA teams, but their division position was determined within the Southeast standings.
In the playoffs, Miami faced the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round and lost the series 4–1. The season was still notable because it marked the Heat’s return to the playoffs after missing the postseason in 2016–17.
