Who financed the founding of Christian Dior’s fashion house in 1946?
Answer
Marcel Boussac
Answer
Marcel Boussac
Marcel Boussac financed the founding of Christian Dior’s fashion house in 1946.
Boussac was a powerful French textile manufacturer and industrialist who recognized Dior’s potential after the designer had worked for other Paris couture houses. His financial backing gave Dior the resources to establish an independent maison at 30 Avenue Montaigne.
The house opened in December 1946, and Dior presented its first collection in February 1947. The immediate success of that collection helped transform the new label into an international fashion force.
Some accounts describe Boussac simply as Dior’s business partner, but his role was more specific: he provided the capital and industrial support that made the couture house possible. Dior supplied the creative direction and his name.
