Who edited Vogue Italia from 1988 until her death in 2016?
Answer
Franca Sozzani
Answer
Franca Sozzani
Franca Sozzani edited Vogue Italia from 1988 until her death in 2016.
Sozzani became editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia in 1988 and transformed the magazine into one of the most influential titles in international fashion publishing. Her tenure was known for visually ambitious photography, provocative themes, and willingness to address subjects such as racism, violence, environmental issues, and body image.
Among her best-known editorial projects was Vogue Italia’s 2008 Black Issue, which featured only Black models. She also supported photographers and stylists whose work pushed fashion imagery beyond conventional commercial presentation.
Sozzani died on December 22, 2016, aged 66. She is sometimes confused with Carla Sozzani, her sister and the founder of the Milan-based 10 Corso Como cultural and retail space. Anna Wintour, by contrast, led American Vogue rather than Vogue Italia.
