Who directed the Sherlock episode The Empty Hearse?
Answer
Jeremy Lovering
Answer
Jeremy Lovering
Jeremy Lovering directed the Sherlock episode “The Empty Hearse.”
The episode is the first instalment of Series 3 and was written by Mark Gatiss. It follows Sherlock Holmes’s return to London after his apparent death at the end of “The Reichenbach Fall,” then reunites him with John Watson while introducing Mary Morstan and Charles Augustus Magnussen.
“The Empty Hearse” draws on Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of the Empty House,” which also concerns Holmes returning after being presumed dead. The modern episode adds an underground terrorist network and several playful explanations for how Sherlock survived his rooftop fall.
A common mix-up is confusing Lovering with other Sherlock directors. Douglas Mackinnon directed the 2016 special “The Abominable Bride,” Colm McCarthy directed “The Sign of Three,” and Benjamin Caron directed “The Final Problem.” The episode first aired on BBC One on 1 January 2014.
