Who directed the Disney Channel film Lemonade Mouth?

The story behind the answer

Patricia Riggen directed the Disney Channel film Lemonade Mouth.

Released in 2011, Lemonade Mouth is a musical comedy-drama based on Mark Peter Hughes’s 2007 young-adult novel. The story follows five students who meet in detention, form a band, and use music to challenge school authority while dealing with family pressure, insecurity, and personal conflict.

Riggen is a Mexican film director whose earlier feature Under the Same Moon received attention at the Sundance Film Festival and won major recognition for its Spanish-language storytelling. Lemonade Mouth was a notable move into family television and musical filmmaking. It was filmed largely in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico, and premiered on Disney Channel on April 15, 2011.

The film is sometimes confused with projects involving its executive producer, Debra Martin Chase, or with other Disney musical directors such as Kenny Ortega. Riggen, however, is the credited director. The movie’s soundtrack also became a significant part of its success, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard 200.
