Who directed the 2026 film Supergirl?

Craig Gillespie directed the 2026 film Supergirl. The film is a DC Studios production written by Ana Nogueira and inspired by the comic-book storyline Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

Gillespie became attached to the project in 2024, after building a reputation for character-focused films such as I, Tonya and Cruella. Supergirl marks his first feature-length DC superhero film. James Gunn and Peter Safran produced it for the new DC Studios franchise.

The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl and Jason Momoa as Lobo, with Eve Ridley as Ruthye and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem. A common mix-up is James Gunn: he co-heads DC Studios and produced the film, but he did not direct it. Andy Muschietti directed The Flash, while Patty Jenkins directed the Wonder Woman films.
