Rob Letterman directed the 2019 live-action film Pokémon Detective Pikachu.
The movie was based on the 2016 Nintendo 3DS game Detective Pikachu and combined live-action human characters with computer-generated Pokémon. Ryan Reynolds provided the voice and performance for Detective Pikachu, while Justice Smith played Tim Goodman.
The story follows Tim as he investigates the disappearance of his father, Harry Goodman, with help from a talking Pikachu who was formerly Harry’s partner. The film uses Ryme City, where humans and Pokémon live together, as its main setting.
Pokémon Detective Pikachu premiered in 2019 and became the first live-action feature film based on the Pokémon franchise. Letterman had previously directed animated and family films, including Monsters vs. Aliens and Goosebumps.
