Who directed Mission: Impossible 2?
Answer
John Woo
Answer
John Woo
John Woo directed Mission: Impossible 2.
Released in 2000, Mission: Impossible 2 was the second film in the franchise and a standalone sequel to the 1996 original. Woo brought his highly recognizable action style to the project, emphasizing balletic gunfights, slow motion, dramatic standoffs, motorcycles and white doves. The result looks markedly different from the first film, which was directed by Brian De Palma.
Tom Cruise returned as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, joined by Thandiwe Newton as professional thief Nyah Nordoff-Hall and Dougray Scott as rogue agent Sean Ambrose. The plot centers on a genetically engineered disease called Chimera and a potential cure known as Bellerophon.
Robert Towne wrote the screenplay, while Hans Zimmer composed the film’s score. Those credits can cause confusion, especially because Lalo Schifrin’s original Mission: Impossible theme remained part of the franchise’s musical identity. Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam and Ang Lee were all major filmmakers, but none directed this sequel. Woo’s film was released in the United States on 24 May 2000.
