Who did James Paxton throw a no hitter against in May 2018?

The story behind the answer

James Paxton threw his May 2018 no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays. On May 8, 2018, the Seattle Mariners left-hander shut down Toronto in a 5–0 victory at Rogers Centre in Toronto, his native country.

Paxton allowed no hits across nine innings, striking out seven and walking three while throwing 99 pitches. The performance was the sixth no-hitter in Mariners history and the third no-hitter in Major League Baseball during the 2018 season. It was also Paxton's first career no-hitter.

The game carried extra significance because Paxton became the first Canadian major-league pitcher to throw a no-hitter in Canada. He was only the second Canadian-born pitcher to throw an MLB no-hitter, following Dick Fowler, who achieved the feat for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1945. The Blue Jays had selected Paxton in the 2009 draft, but he did not sign with Toronto.
