Who developed the TV series Elle?

The story behind the answer

Laura Kittrell developed the TV series Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel about Elle Woods as a teenager.

Kittrell is credited as the series creator and serves as a co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. The project was announced by Amazon Prime Video in May 2024, after Amazon’s acquisition of MGM expanded plans for new Legally Blonde-related productions.

Elle focuses on Elle Woods’s high-school years in 1990s Seattle, long before the character attends Harvard Law School in the original films. Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle in the films, is involved as an executive producer, but she is not the series creator. Lauren Neustadter and Amanda Brown are also executive producers, which can cause confusion in a multiple-choice question.

The young Elle is played by Lexi Minetree, while the series is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2026. Kittrell’s creator credit is therefore distinct from the show’s production and executive-production credits.
