Bruce N. Blackburn designed the official logo of the United States Bicentennial.
Blackburn was also known for co-designing NASA’s modernized insignia. For the Bicentennial, he created a white five-point star inside a stylized red, white, and blue star. The design was surrounded by the words “American Revolution Bicentennial 1776–1976.”
The logo appeared on government flags, souvenirs, and United States postage stamps. NASA also painted it on the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center in 1976, where it remained until 1998.
The Bicentennial logo is distinct from the America250 identity being used for the 2026 semiquincentennial. Both celebrations connect to the 1776 Declaration of Independence, but they belong to separate anniversary campaigns organized two centuries apart.
