Answer
Bruce Blackburn
Answer
Bruce Blackburn
Bruce Blackburn designed the official logo for the United States Bicentennial in 1976.
The logo featured a white five-pointed star inside a stylized red, white, and blue star. It was surrounded by the words “American Revolution Bicentennial 1776–1976” in Helvetica. The design became one of the most recognizable visual symbols of the 200th anniversary.
Blackburn was also known for co-designing NASA’s modernized “worm” insignia. The Bicentennial logo appeared on flags, souvenirs, government facilities, and postage stamps. NASA painted it on the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center in 1976.
The Bicentennial was the major predecessor to America250. Its logo is sometimes attributed to NASA because it appeared prominently at the space center, but the designer credited for the Bicentennial emblem was Bruce Blackburn.
