Who designed the modern United States Bicentennial logo used during the 1976 anniversary?

The story behind the answer

Bruce Blackburn designed the modern United States Bicentennial logo used during the 1976 anniversary.

Blackburn was a graphic designer who also co-designed the modernized NASA insignia known as the “worm” logo. For the Bicentennial, his design used a white five-point star inside a stylized red, white, and blue star, surrounded by the words “American Revolution Bicentennial 1776–1976.”

The logo became one of the most recognizable visual marks of the 1970s celebrations. It appeared on flags, postage stamps, souvenirs, government materials, and commercial products licensed for Bicentennial use. An early use appeared on a United States postage stamp in 1971.

The logo is sometimes misattributed to better-known American designers such as Saul Bass or Milton Glaser. Those designers created many famous identity systems, but Blackburn was the designer associated with the American Revolution Bicentennial mark.
