Who designed the first Dior Homme collection, launched in 2001?

The story behind the answer

Hedi Slimane designed the first Dior Homme collection, launched in 2001.

Dior Homme was introduced as the house’s modern menswear identity under Slimane, who became its artistic director in 2000. His sharply tailored, narrow silhouettes helped redefine the public image of Dior menswear and influenced men’s fashion well beyond the brand itself.

Slimane’s Dior work is especially associated with slim suits, compact jackets and a youthful rock-inspired aesthetic. The line was not simply a men’s version of the historic women’s couture collections; it was developed as a distinct contemporary menswear proposition.

Kris Van Assche succeeded Slimane at Dior Homme in 2007. Kim Jones later became artistic director of Dior Men in 2018, while the Dior Homme name and its creative history are most strongly linked to Slimane’s formative period.
