Who created the television series The Crown?

Peter Morgan created the television series The Crown. The British-American historical drama was developed for Netflix by Morgan, who also served as its principal writer and an executive producer.

Morgan had already explored Queen Elizabeth II’s public and private role in his screenplay for the 2006 film The Queen, starring Helen Mirren. He later expanded that interest through his 2013 stage play The Audience, which imagined the monarch’s weekly meetings with successive prime ministers. Those earlier projects helped form the creative foundation for The Crown.

The series was produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television. Although it draws on real people and events, it is a dramatization rather than a documentary, and some scenes and conversations are speculative. Another common mix-up is crediting the show to a director or producer; Morgan is the creator.
