David Shore created the medical drama House M.D.

Shore developed the series for Fox with executive producers Katie Jacobs and Bryan Singer. The show premiered in 2004 and centered on Gregory House, a brilliant but abrasive diagnostician whose unusual cases drove each episode. Shore also served as a writer and showrunner, helping establish the program’s distinctive mixture of medical mystery, workplace drama, and character conflict.

House M.D. was partly inspired by the idea of a medical detective story. Its central doctor was influenced by Sherlock Holmes, including House’s surname, his reliance on deduction, and his difficult relationship with authority. Shore and the writers translated those detective conventions into diagnostic medicine.

David Shore is sometimes confused with David E. Kelley, another prominent television writer associated with legal and medical dramas. Kelley created shows including Chicago Hope and The Practice, but he did not create House M.D.
