Who created the Japanese manga series Pandora Hearts?

Jun Mochizuki created the Japanese manga series Pandora Hearts.

Pandora Hearts was written and illustrated by Mochizuki and serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy magazine from 2006 to 2015. Its story follows Oz Vessalius, a young nobleman punished by being sent into the Abyss, and the mysterious Chain known as Alice, also called the Bloodstained Black Rabbit.

The series uses the name and imagery of Pandora’s Box but is not a direct retelling of Hesiod’s Greek myth. Its world combines gothic fantasy, aristocratic families, supernatural contracts, and mysteries surrounding the Abyss. Characters and institutions frequently echo literary and mythological ideas without reproducing the original ancient narrative.

An anime television adaptation aired in 2009. The manga’s collected edition runs to 24 tankōbon volumes. Mochizuki later created The Case Study of Vanitas, another manga series with a strong gothic and historical-fantasy identity.
