Who composed the score for Ridley Scott's Blade Runner?
Answer
Vangelis
Answer
Vangelis
Vangelis composed the score for Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.
The Greek electronic musician, born Evangelos Odessey Papathanassiou, created the film's atmospheric music using synthesizers and electronic instruments. His score blends futuristic sound design with elements of film noir, jazz, ambient music, and classical composition, matching the rain-soaked Los Angeles of 2019 depicted in the film.
Vangelis recorded much of the music at Nemo Studios in London between December 1981 and April 1982. Memorable pieces include the main theme, “Love Theme,” “Blade Runner Blues,” and the emotional “Tears in Rain” cue associated with Roy Batty's final scene.
The soundtrack's publication history can cause confusion. A complete official soundtrack album was not released until 1994, more than a decade after the film. Vangelis's music was also nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe in 1983. John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Ennio Morricone did not compose Blade Runner's score.
