Who composed the musical score for Inside Out?

Michael Giacchino composed the musical score for Inside Out. His music gives the film’s abstract world an emotional sound, combining delicate piano and strings with brighter, more playful orchestral colors as Riley’s feelings and memories shift.

Giacchino was already a major film composer when Pixar hired him. He had previously written scores for The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, and several live-action projects, making him a familiar collaborator within the Disney-Pixar creative world. His Inside Out score was released as a soundtrack album alongside the film in 2015.

The composer is sometimes confused with Randy Newman, another celebrated Pixar collaborator who scored Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Monsters, Inc., and Cars. Hans Zimmer and John Williams are also famous film composers, but neither wrote Inside Out’s score. Giacchino’s work here is instrumental music; it should not be confused with the film’s songs or vocal performances.
