Who composed the main title theme used by House M.D.?

The story behind the answer

Massive Attack composed the main title theme used by House M.D.

The opening sequence uses “Teardrop,” a song by the English trip-hop group Massive Attack. Its distinctive vocal is performed by Elizabeth Fraser, who was the lead singer of the Scottish band Cocteau Twins. The song’s pulse and atmospheric sound became closely associated with the program’s opening credits.

The title sequence pairs the music with medical and anatomical imagery, including layered images of the body and the show’s title. In the United States, the broadcast version generally used the song, while some international versions and later distribution arrangements used alternative music because of licensing issues.

“Teardrop” was released by Massive Attack in 1998, several years before House M.D. premiered. The connection between the song and the drama became so strong that viewers often identify it as the show’s theme even though broadcast versions have not always been identical.
