Eliot Daniel composed the music for the I Love Lucy theme.

Daniel’s theme became one of television’s most recognizable melodies, introducing the sitcom that aired from October 15, 1951, to May 6, 1957. The familiar opening was originally an instrumental cue associated with the animated heart-and-stick-figure title sequence.

The credit can be confusing because the theme has several important musical contributors. Eliot Daniel wrote the music, while Harold Adamson later supplied lyrics. Desi Arnaz performed the lyric version with Paul Weston and the Norman Luboff Choir in the 1953 episode “Lucy’s Last Birthday.” Marco Rizo and Desi Arnaz were also involved in the show’s musical arrangements and performance tradition.

Daniel initially preferred not to have his name associated with a new television medium, but the theme became his best-known composition. The song was later released as a 1953 Columbia Records B-side, helping turn a television cue into a separately recognizable piece of popular music.
