Junichi Masuda composed music for Game Freak after being introduced to the team during Quinty’s development.
Masuda joined the group after Satoshi Tajiri consulted his contacts while Game Freak was developing Quinty, an arcade-style puzzle game later published by Namco. Masuda became the company’s principal composer and contributed music to many of its early projects.
His Pokémon work extended beyond composition. He served as a director, producer, and executive producer on multiple main-series games, including Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon X and Y, and later entries. He also helped shape the sound and musical identity of the franchise.
The connection to Quinty is an early Game Freak history fact that is easy to miss because Masuda is more widely known for his Pokémon leadership. Ken Sugimori was Game Freak’s key early illustrator, while Tajiri supplied the original Pokémon concept, so these figures had distinct creative roles.
