Who coached the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008?

The story behind the answer

The Philadelphia Eagles were coached by Andy Reid in 2008. It was Reid’s 10th season as Philadelphia’s head coach, a tenure that began when the Eagles hired him on January 11, 1999.

Reid had previously worked on Mike Holmgren’s Green Bay Packers staff, including as quarterbacks coach, before becoming one of the NFL’s youngest head coaches in 1999. By 2008, he had established Philadelphia as a consistent contender, guided by quarterback Donovan McNabb and running back Brian Westbrook.

The 2008 Eagles finished 9-6-1 and reached the playoffs. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants before losing to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game. That postseason run is sometimes associated with the later coaching era, but Reid was firmly in charge.

A common mix-up is with John Harbaugh, who coached the Baltimore Ravens in 2008, or with Reid’s later role as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Reid remained Philadelphia’s coach through the 2012 season before joining Kansas City in 2013.
