Who co-wrote the 1984 fantasy novel The Talisman with Stephen King?
Answer
Peter Straub
Answer
Peter Straub
Peter Straub co-wrote the 1984 fantasy novel The Talisman with Stephen King.
The novel follows twelve-year-old Jack Sawyer, who crosses between modern America and a parallel world called the Territories. Jack seeks a powerful object known as the Talisman, hoping it can save his gravely ill mother. The book combines fantasy, horror, adventure and a child-centered quest narrative.
The collaboration grew from the authors' friendship. King met Straub and his family while living in London in 1977, and the two writers later developed the idea of working together. The Talisman was published by Viking on November 7, 1984, and became one of King's notable departures from straightforward horror.
King and Straub later reunited for Black House, published in 2001. That sequel follows Jack Sawyer as an adult and connects the world of The Talisman more explicitly with King's wider fictional mythology. Robert McCammon, Clive Barker and Dean Koontz were not co-authors of The Talisman.
