Who co-wrote Taylor Swift’s song “august” with her?

Jack Antonoff co-wrote Taylor Swift’s song “august.”

Swift and Antonoff are both credited as songwriters on the track. They had already collaborated on music for several earlier Swift albums, including 1989, Reputation, and Lover, before working together on Folklore.

For “august,” Antonoff created the instrumental first and sent it to Swift. According to the song’s production history, Swift then wrote the lyrics immediately and intuitively, shaping the instrumental into a fictional late-summer story.

Antonoff also co-produced the recording with Swift and Joe Alwyn. This makes him important to both the songwriting and sonic identity of the track, rather than merely a performer or studio contributor.
