Who co-produced Stevie Wonder’s albums Music of My Mind and Talking Book?

The story behind the answer

Robert Margouleff and Malcolm Cecil co-produced Stevie Wonder’s albums Music of My Mind and Talking Book.

The pair were electronic-music specialists who worked with Wonder during a crucial period in the early 1970s. Their technical expertise helped him build dense arrangements around synthesizers, electronic effects and multitrack recording.

Margouleff and Cecil were closely associated with TONTO, short for The Original New Timbral Orchestra, a large modular synthesizer system. Wonder used the system to expand the range of sounds available to him, especially on the albums that began his celebrated 1970s creative peak.

They are sometimes mistaken for Motown’s famous Holland–Dozier–Holland songwriting team. That trio wrote and produced many classic Motown hits for other artists, while Margouleff and Cecil’s partnership with Wonder centered on electronic production and studio technology.
