Who co-founded Instagram along with Kevin Systrom?

The story behind the answer

Mike Krieger co-founded Instagram with Kevin Systrom. Krieger, a Brazilian software engineer and entrepreneur, became the company’s chief technology officer and helped turn the early idea into a functioning photo-sharing app.

Krieger and Systrom had both attended Stanford University, where they developed a professional and personal connection. In 2010, they worked together on Burbn, an ambitious location-based check-in service. After deciding that Burbn had too many features, they narrowed the product to photo-sharing, filters, and simple social interaction. That focused version became Instagram.

Instagram launched in October 2010 and grew rapidly. Krieger remained CTO as the service expanded from a small startup into a major global platform. Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 for about $1 billion. Krieger and Systrom later stepped down from Instagram in 2018 and subsequently collaborated on other technology projects.
