Rosie Rios chairs the United States Semiquincentennial Commission for America250.
Rios, whose full name is Rosa Gumataotao Rios, is a former Treasurer of the United States. President Joe Biden designated her chair of the commission in July 2022, succeeding Dan DiLella. She had already been appointed as a commission member in January 2018.
The chair is selected from among the private citizen commissioners by designation from the president. The commission itself includes members appointed through congressional leadership from both political parties, along with ex officio federal officials.
Rios’s federal background includes service as Treasurer of the United States from 2009 to 2016. Her role in America250 is distinct from the organization’s chief executive position and from honorary national co-chair roles held by former presidents and first ladies.
