Leah Peasall became the youngest Grammy Award winner after appearing on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.
Peasall was part of the Peasall Sisters, who contributed vocals to “In the Highways,” a traditional song featured on the soundtrack. The album won Album of the Year at the 44th Grammy Awards in 2002, giving Peasall a Grammy at age eight.
Her record is often described as the youngest Grammy winner, although the award was shared by the ensemble credited on the soundtrack rather than presented to Peasall as an individual solo artist. Her sisters Hannah and Sarah also participated in the recording.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? became a major success beyond the film itself. Produced by T Bone Burnett, it helped bring American roots music, bluegrass, gospel, and old-time country to a broad contemporary audience. The soundtrack’s Grammy success was central to that revival.
